The NDIS funds between $150 to $230 per day for MTA depending on location. This funding is generally available for up to 90 days and covers the cost of the accommodation only, not daily supports, food and other living expenses.
Participants who are eligible for MTA are those who have a long-term home they’ll move into but need somewhere else to live in the medium term. They are also unable to stay in their current accommodation while they wait. Visit this page for more information about MTA eligibility.
If you’re being discharged from hospital, you may be eligible for MTA, even if you don’t have a confirmed long-term home yet. MTA can help you leave hospital sooner while you work out your long-term housing options.
If you’re eligible for other Home and Living supports like SIL, you can have MTA added to your plan. That’s because MTA is not a standalone support; it is usually included when you’re waiting for a longer-term housing solution like Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) to be ready.
