We Answer Your Questions About NDIS Support & Services

Frequently Asked Questions

Learn more about how NDIS services work, including costs, coverage and support options.

To be eligible for the NDIS, individuals must be between the ages of 9 and 65, live in Australia as a citizen or on a relevant visa, and have a permanent and significant disability that affects their ability to take part in daily activities. Some children under 9 may be eligible through early intervention, and certain conditions may automatically meet the disability requirements. Final eligibility is assessed by the National Disability Insurance Agency.

NDIS funds can be used for supports that are directly related to your disability and help you achieve your goals, such as assistance with daily activities, travel or transport, therapies and support to participate in the community. All funded supports should be considered reasonable and necessary under NDIS guidelines. Visit this page to learn more.

It depends. According to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), a NDIS service is free of Goods and Services Tax (GST) if: the participant has an active NDIS plan, the service is listed in their plan as reasonable and necessary, there’s a written agreement between the participant and the provider, and the service is covered under the official GST-free determination by the ATO.

Registered NDIS Providers can deliver everything from daily personal care to therapies, assistive technology, home modifications and specialist disability support. Their qualifications have been approved by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, so you can expect services that meet strict national standards for safety, quality, and accountability.

Yes, but only for Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) supports under the NDIS. For all other supports, a written service agreement is not mandatory but strongly recommended. The NDIA may review agreements during compliance checks to ensure services are being provided in line with what’s been agreed with the participant.
